Bulls Lose In Five To Kent State
Becky Ashare and Katie Henry both post career highs in kills to lead Buffalo attack
 | | Katie Henry | BUFFALO, NY - The University at Buffalo volleyball team saw another attempt at its first
Mid-American Conference victory of the season spoiled when the visiting Kent State Golden Flashes
(14-11, 8-8 MAC) came back from a 2-1 deficit to win in five games at Alumni Arena. Game scores were
30-25, 31-33, 28-30, 30-27 and 15-6. The Bulls were led by sophomore
Lindsay Matikosh (North Tonawanda, NY/North
Tonawanda) with team-highs of 18 kills and 18 digs and sophomore
Becky Ashare (Coram, NY/Longwood) and freshman
Katie Henry (Buffalo, NY/City
Honors), who both posted career highs in kills with 16 and 15, respectively.
 | | Becky Ashare | After a 30-25 Kent State victory in game one, the Bulls pulled out an exciting 33-31 win in
game two, sealing the victory on a kill by Ashare. Buffalo then took game three by a 30-28 score before
the Golden Flashes came from behind to win game four and tie the match at 2-2. The Bulls were up by
six points on two different occasions, 12-6 and 22-16, but the Golden Flashes would not back down.
KSU's Jennifer Dreyer came off the bench and recorded back-to-back kills to give Kent State a 30-27 win
and force a fifth and deciding game. The Golden Flashes dominated game five, hitting an impressive
.563 and getting four kills from Sarah Kutschinski. She finished with a match-high 25 kills and 15 digs
to lead Kent State, followed by Dreyer with 19 kills and six blocks and Chantel Vineyard with 12 kills
and 13 digs.
Ashare tied her career high with a team-high six blocks on the night and senior setter
Larissa LaCour (West Islip, NY/West
Islip) finished with 52 assists and 12 digs. Seniors
Heather Barfuss (Huntington, NY/John H.
Glenn) (nine kills, nine digs, four blocks, three assists)
and Amelia Liddle (Toronto,
Ontario/Leaside) (eight kills, 10 digs, three blocks) also contributed to the Bulls' effort.
Buffalo (5-20 overall, 0-15 MAC) hosts Akron on Saturday, November 10 at 7 pm at
Alumni Arena.
