Bulls Split Weekend By Defeating Akron The University at Buffalo volleyball team ended it seven-match losing skid on Saturday by sweeping Akron on the road. UB extended the streak to seven on Friday when it fell to Toledo, but was able to come away with the victory against the Zips. The Bulls now have two more road contests left in the regular season before the conference tournament begins on Nov. 14. Break Out The Brooms It has been a long time coming for the University at Buffalo volleyball team. For the first time since joining the Mid-American Conference in 1998, the Bulls swept a season series from a conference opponent. Buffalo took both its home and away matches against Akron by identical 3-0 victories. Coming into this season, the Bulls had just 14 victories all-time against conference opponents since 1998. Digging Deep Junior Lizaiha Garcia (Dayton, OH/Beavercreek) is just five digs short of reaching 500 for the time in her career. With at least three matches remaining on the season, Garcia is also looking to set the single-season dig record which stands at 522. Currently, Garcia’s total ranks third all-time, while she already hold fourth place in the rankings after sophomore year and tenth place following her freshman season.
UB In The MAC Rankings The Bulls can be found in several of the MAC leader categories. As a team, UB is second in the MAC in service aces, registering 1.88 per game. Central Michigan leads the conference at 1.99 service aces per game. Alyssa Fitchette (Watertown, NY/Watertown/Genesee CC) sits at seventh in hitting percentage at .285. Jenna Mapé (Calgary, Alberta/Father Lacombe) is sixth in service aces at 0.37 per game and tenth in kills at 3.47 per game. Kelsey Lueders (Littleton, CO/Chatfield) and Fitchette remain amongst the blocking leaders as Lueders is second at 1.32 per game and Fitchette is seventh at 1.06. Lizaiha Garcia (Dayton, OH/Beavercreek) is currently ninth in the league in digs at 4.67 per game, but in conference matches only she jumps up to eighth at 4.94 per game. Up Next
