BUFFALO, NY - The University at Buffalo volleyball team snapped a 14-match losing streak with a thrilling come-from-behind 3-2 win over the visiting Miami University RedHawks tonight in Alumni Arena, 17-30, 24-30, 30-23, 30-27, 15-11. Four players recorded double digits in kills for the Bulls (8-19 overall, 1-13 MAC), who claimed their first Mid-American Conference victory of the season. With the loss, Miami fell to 7-15 overall and 5-8 in the conference.

The RedHawks dominated game one, easily winning by a 30-17 score, aided by seven service aces. The Bulls started to show some life in game two, but Miami broke a 13-13 tied with a 5-0 run to go up 18-13 and Buffalo could only get as close as two points for the remainder of the game before the 30-24 final.

Back-to-back block assists by the duo of junior Katie Weekley (Dayton, OH/Chaminade-Julienne) and sophomore Nikki Morzenti (Safety Harbor, FL/Clearwater) that put the Bulls up 17-16 proved to be the turning point in game three. Morzenti broke a 21-21 tie with a kill and then went on to serve six straight points that put the Bulls ahead 28-21 en route to the 30-23 victory.

Buffalo took the momentum from the win into game four, going up 7-3. Weekley had six kills on 10 attack attempts and four blocks in the game to lead the Bulls to a 30-27 win that tied the match and forced the fifth and deciding game.

Weekley then had three kills and one block for four of the Bulls' first five points in game five that helped give them a 5-2 lead and enough of a cushion to hold on for the 15-11 win. Another block by Weekley and freshman Tammy Julé (Regina Beach, Saskatchewan/Riffel) gave Buffalo a 13-9 lead, and the Bulls' final two points in the game came on Miami attack errors.

Julé led the Bulls with a career-high 21 kills on 45 attacks while also adding 11 digs and five blocks. Weekley added a career-high 18 kills and a match-high 11 blocks. Morzenti finished with 17 kills and 10 digs, and senior Molly Schrantz (Depew, NY/Lancaster) recorded 11 kills, 10 digs and four blocks. Schrantz's seventh dig of the night was the 1,000th dig of her career, making her just the ninth player in UB volleyball history to reach that mark.

Junior setter Amy Brown (Pittsburgh, PA/Mt. Lebanon) recorded 58 assists and 17 digs, and freshman libero Lizaiha Garcia (Dayton, OH/Beavercreek) finished with a team-high 23 digs.

The RedHawks were led by Tara Buroker with 20 kills and a match-high 24 digs and Jenna Staun with 17 kills and 17 digs. Carli Reihman added 13 kills, 10 digs and eight blocks.

Buffalo now hits the road for its final two matches of the regular season. The Bulls play at Kent State on Friday, November 12 and at Bowling Green on Saturday, November 13.
