AKRON, OH – The University at Buffalo volleyball team ended its seven-match losing streak in style on Saturday night, defeating Akron 3-0 at the Rhodes Arena. The victory increases UB’s record to 14-17 on the season and 3-11 in conference play.

The Bulls took the match, 30-23, 30-21, 36-34 and received two 15-kill performances from their two senior outside hitters, Nikki Morzenti (Safety Harbor, FL/Clearwater) and Jenna Mapé (Calgary, Alberta/Father Lacombe). However, the most efficient hitting came from a third senior, setter Brandie Clark (Medicine Hat, Alberta/Medicine Hat) who had six kills and no errors on 11 swings to finish with a match-high .545 efficiency. Clark also finished with match highs in total blocks (4) and assists (47).

Sophomore Claudia Neba (Aurora, CO/Smoky Hill/Rutgers) had her second strong game in as many nights, recording nine kills on 18 swings, with just two errors. Neba also recorded two block assists on the evening.

UB participated in one of its wildest games of the season in the third game of the match. The Bulls finally emerged victorious in that match-clinching third game, but each team had the opportunity to claim the game. After taking the lead 29-28, UB had four opportunities to end

the game before Neba took a set from Clark and drilled it home for the victory.

Junior Lizaiha Garcia (Dayton, OH/Beavercreek) finished with 15 digs, while Morzenti completed the double-double with her 12 digs. Morzenti also led all players with two service aces.

Akron (7-21, 1-13 MAC) was led by Brionna Patterson who recorded a match-high 18 kills and 15 digs from Megan Rodriguez. Kara Smith led all Zips with 38 assists in what was Akron’s final home match of the season.

The Bulls will wrap up regular season action next weekend as they head to Western Michigan on Friday, Nov. 10 at 7:00 pm. UB will close out the regular season the following day at Northern Illinois.
