BUFFALO, NY - The University at Buffalo volleyball team dropped a 3-0 decision to the visiting Eagles of Eastern Michigan tonight at Alumni Arena. The Eagles (16-8 overall, 9-6 Mid-American Conference) got stronger as the match went on, winning by game scores of 30-20, 30-16 and 30-11. With the loss, the Bulls drop to 5-18 overall and 0-13 in the MAC. Sophomore Becky Ashare (Coram, NY/Longwood) led the Bulls with seven kills, and senior setter Larissa LaCour (West Islip, NY/West Islip) had 24 assists on the night.

Buffalo freshman Katie Henry (Buffalo, NY/City Honors) served for four straight points, including an ace and two kills by Ashare, to get the Bulls within five points in game one, 18-13. The Eagles, however, regrouped and ended the game on two service aces by setter Camila Olaio and a kill by Katie Wagenmaker. The Eagles went on to dominate games two and three, taking advantage of crucial Buffalo hitting errors and serving 12 of their 16 aces in the match. For the match, EMU hit .340 compared to the Bulls' .041.

Sophomore Lindsay Matikosh (North Tonawanda, NY/North Tonawanda) and senior Heather Barfuss (Huntington, NY/John H. Glenn) each had five kills, and Matikosh added team highs of nine digs and three blocks. Sophomore Alexis Bouie (Albion, NY/Albion) finished with four kills, seven digs and one block, and Henry recorded four kills, seven digs and two service aces.

The Bulls will host Marshall in a 7 pm match tomorrow night at Alumni Arena. The Thundering Herd (5-17 overall, 3-10 MAC) defeated the Bulls by a 3-1 score earlier in the season, on September 21, in Huntington, WV.
