Lindsay Matikosh leads Buffalo with 13 kills

BUFFALO, NY - The University at Buffalo volleyball team dropped a four-game match to the visiting Kent State Golden Flashes tonight in Alumni Arena, 20-30, 30-21, 30-28, 30-22. The Bulls were led by junior Lindsay Matikosh (North Tonawanda, NY/North Tonawanda) with a team-high 13 kills and eight digs and sophomore Molly Schrantz (Depew, NY/Lancaster) with 11 kills, 24 assists, seven digs and three blocks.

The loss dropped Buffalo's record to 9-17 overall and 1-11 in the Mid-American Conference while Kent State improved to 13-10 overall and 6-5 in the MAC.

The Bulls controlled game one and jumped out to an early lead in the match behind the play of junior Alexis Bouie (Albion, NY/Albion) who had four kills and three blocks in Buffalo's 30-20 win. The Golden Flashes, however, tied things up with a 30-21 win in game two, ending it on an unassisted kill by Michelle Corniffe. Kent State then grabbed the momentum in the match when it pulled out a 30-28 win in game three. The Golden Flashes led by four, 29-25, before the Bulls got within one at 29-28 on a kill by Bouie, a setting error by KSU's Anne Butts and a block by Bouie and Matikosh, but a kill by Julie Ruff ended the game at 30-28 in Kent State's favor. The Golden Flashes then jumped out to an early 9-4 lead in game four and did not let up en route to a 30-22 win to end the match.

Bouie finished with nine kills and four blocks, and freshman Katie Weekley (Dayton, OH/Chaminade-Julienne) added seven kills and three blocks for the Bulls. Sophomore libero Kathryn Henry (Buffalo, NY/City Honors) finished the night with a match-high 17 digs, one away from tying her career high. The Golden Flashes were led by Danielle Holt with a match-high 15 kills, 10 digs and four blocks and Ruth Schnitzer-Ladurner with 11 kills, four service aces, eight digs and three blocks.

The Bulls are off until next weekend when they travel to Marshall on Friday, November 8 and Ohio on Saturday, November 9. Both matches are 7 pm starts.
