Bulls Earn 3-1 MAC Road Win at CMU

On Saturday, the University at Buffalo volleyball team earned its first Mid-American Conference road win since the 2003 season with a 3-1 victory at Central Michigan (30-25, 30-24, 29-31, 30-23), led by five players in double figures in kills and four players with double-doubles. Junior Brandie Clark (Medicine Hat, Alberta/Medicine Hat) led the Bulls with a match-high 15 kills, 11 digs and six blocks, while junior Jenna Mapé (Calgary, Alberta/Father Lacombe) added 14 kills and a team-high 21 digs. Junior Nikki Morzenti (Safety Harbor, FL/Clearwater) finished with 14 kills and 11 digs, and senior Amy Brown (Pittsburgh, PA/Mt. Lebanon) also posted a double-double with 58 assists, 13 digs, three kills and four blocks. Junior Lauren Burd (York, PA/Central York) added 12 kills and a match-high seven blocks, and senior Katie Weekley (Dayton, OH/Chaminade-Julienne) finished with 12 kills and six blocks. Sophomore Lizaiha Garcia (Dayton, OH/Beavercreek) chipped in with 18 digs. The win snapped a three-match losing streak and gave the Bulls their first conference road victory since a 3-0 win at Marshall on November 14, 2003.

Bulls Fall to West-Leading Eagles

Prior to Saturday's win at Central Michigan, the Bulls dropped a three-game match to the Mid-American Conference's West Division leader Eastern Michigan on Friday night in Ypsilanti, MI. Game scores were 30-24, 30-24, 30-21. Burd had a team-high 15 kills on 23 attempts for a .609 hitting percentage to lead Buffalo's offense. She also led the Bulls with four blocks, while Brown contributed six kills, 12 digs, 27 assists and two blocks. Brown's six kills tied her career high and came on seven attempts for a match-high .714 hitting percentage. Morzenti tied Brown for the team high in digs with 12, while Weekley and Mapé added eight and seven kills, respectively.

More Career Highs Fall

The Bulls set more career highs during the weekend's matches. Clark had a career-high 15 kills and Mapé had a career-high 21 digs in Saturday's win at Central Michigan, while Burd had a career-high 15 kills at Eastern Michigan on Friday. Brown tied her career high with six kills against the Eagles.

Up Next

After four straight road matches, the Bulls finally return home to close out the Mid-American Conference regular season with four matches in Alumni Arena, beginning with Toledo on Thursday, November 3 and ending with Western Michigan on Saturday, November 12. The 2005 Mid-American Conference Tournament begins on Tuesday, November 15 with first-round matches at campus sites.
