Volleyball Weekly ReleaseBUFFALO LOSES TO WESTERN MICHIGAN, KENT STATE The Bulls' volleyball team lost two road matches over the weekend, falling at Western Michigan, 0-3, on Friday, October 27 and at Kent State, 1-3, on Saturday, October 28. Freshman Lindsay Matikosh (North Tonawanda, NY/North Tonawanda) led the Bulls offensively against the Broncos with seven kills on 14 attempts. She and junior Larissa LaCour (West Islip, NY/West Islip) also posted a match-high seven digs apiece. LaCour added 12 assists, moving her past Mary Tocke (1,051 career assists, 1989-91) and into seventh place all-time on the UB career assists list. The Bulls dropped three straight games to the Broncos, 1-15, 8-15, 6-15. The next night, the Bulls took Kent State to four games but could not come away with a win, dropping their record to 4-20 overall and 0-13 in the Mid-American Conference. Buffalo battled for a 17-15 win in game three, but the Golden Flashes pulled out 15-9, 15-11 and 15-13 wins in games one, two and four to record the victory. Junior Keri Shiels (Baldwin, NY/Baldwin) and Matikosh led the Bulls with 14 kills apiece while also adding 18 and 15 digs, respectively. Freshman Alexis Bouie (Albion, NY/Albion) recorded nine kills and eight blocks and LaCour added 36 assists and 12 digs to the UB effort. LACOUR AND SHIELS ADD TO CAREER NUMBERS Junior Larissa LaCour (West Islip, NY/West Islip) moved into seventh place all-time at UB in career assists following her 12-kill performance against Western Michigan on Friday. LaCour now has 761 assists this season and 1,093 for her career. Fellow junior Keri Shiels (Baldwin, NY/Baldwin) added to her career kill numbers with 14 kills against Kent State on Saturday. Shiels has 199 kills this season (2.69 per game), tops on the team, and 844 for her career. She is closing in on the ninth spot all-time at UB in career kills, which is currently held by Kathy Brinkworth (1994-97) with 852 career kills. PAIR OF FRESHMEN PERFORM WELL UB's two freshmen had strong games against the Kent State Golden Flashes. Alexis Bouie (Albion, NY/Albion) made the most of her fourth start of the season, recording career-highs of nine kills on 19 attempts, eight blocks (three solo, five assists), three digs and two assists. Lindsay Matikosh (North Tonawanda, NY/North Tonawanda) led UB with 14 kills and 15 digs against the Golden Flashes, and she added seven kills and seven digs against Western Michigan. Matikosh continues to lead the Bulls with 222 digs (2.64 per game), and she is second on the team with 191 kills (2.27 per game) so far this season. THIS COMING WEEK After playing 17 of their first 24 matches on the road, the Bulls return home for seven of their final eight matches of the regular season, beginning on Wednesday, November 1. The Bulls will get a break from conference action, hosting the Cornell Big Red at 7 p.m. at Alumni Arena. Buffalo then hosts Ohio at 7 p.m. on Saturday, November 4 and Miami (OH) at 3 p.m. on Sunday, November 5
