BUFFALO, NY – The University at Buffalo volleyball team dropped its home finale on Saturday night, 3-1, to Central Michigan At Alumni Arena. The match served as Senior Day for UB’s three seniors. The Bulls have now dropped six straight and are 13-16 on the season and 2-10 in conference play.

UB put forth a valiant effort against Central Michigan, but fell, 30-28, 24-30, 30-15, 30-22. The Bulls were behind for most of the first game, but played hard and closed a gap that at one point had CMU up 17-9. In the second game, the Bulls led for the majority and took the game, forcing a 1-1 tie in the match. CMU, however, showed why it is second in the MAC West, cruising in game three, before finishing out UB in game four.

Senior Jenna Mapé (Calgary, Alberta/Father Lacombe) led UB with 15 kills, while fellow senior Nikki Morzenti (Safety Harbor, Fl/Clearwater) added 13 kills and 14 digs on the night. For the second straight day, Alyssa Fitchette (Watertown, NY/Watertown/Genesee) served as UB’s most efficient hitter, recording 10 kills on 16 swings, with just two errors. Fitchette’s .500 hitting efficiency was tops in the match, while the sophomore middle blocker also recorded three block assists. Junior Lizaiha Garcia (Dayton, OH/Beavercreek) led UB with 19 digs, while freshman Lauren Fensten (Centennial, CO/Smoky Hill) had nine.

Fensten, however, made a name for herself in the match, finishing with a match-best five service aces. UB as a team had seven on the night. Senior Brandie Clark (Medicine Hat, Alberta, Medicine Hat) finished with 48 assists and four total blocks, including one solo.

Central Michigan (17-8, 7-5 MAC) was led by Kate Fissel who had 16 kills on the evening. She was one of five Chippewas in double-digits in that department. Four CMU players had double-digit digs, led by 25 from Alexis Lonneman, while Courtney Kersten had a match-high 56 assists.

The Bulls will play their final four regular season matches on the road, beginning at Toledo on Friday, Nov. 3. That contest is set to begin at 7:00 pm.
