Bulls Fall to West-Leading Eagles
The Bulls led game one by an early 7-6 score, but the Eagles scattered two 3-0 runs to quietly pull away for the six-point difference. They used their winning momentum to take an early 10-2 lead in game two before the Bulls battled back behind the play of Burd. She had four kills during a 9-1 Buffalo run that got the Bulls within two, 22-20. Buffalo, however, later hurt itself with three straight attack errors that put the Eagles up by five, 26-21, before the 30-24 final. EMU broke an 8-8 tie in game three with a 6-0 run and later used two 4-0 runs to give it an easy 30-21 win for the shutout. Burd also led the Bulls with four blocks, while senior Amy Brown (Pittsburgh, PA/Mt. Lebanon) contributed six kills, 12 digs, 27 assists and two blocks. Brown's six kills tied her career high and came on seven attempts for a match-high .714 hitting percentage. Junior Nikki Morzenti (Safety Harbor, FL/Clearwater) tied Brown for the team high in digs with 12, while senior Katie Weekley (Dayton, OH/Chaminade-Julienne) and junior Jenna Mapé (Calgary, Alberta/Father Lacombe) added eight and seven kills, respectively.
