YPSILANTI, MI - The University at Buffalo volleyball team dropped a three-game match to the Mid-American Conference's West Division leader Eastern Michigan Friday night in Ypsilanti, MI. Game scores were 30-24, 30-24, 30-21. With the win, the Eagles improve to 16-6 overall and 9-2 in the MAC while the Bulls fall to 9-16 overall and 1-10 in the conference. Junior Lauren Burd (York, PA/Central York) had a career-high 15 kills on 23 attempts for a .609 hitting percentage to lead Buffalo's offense.

The Bulls led game one by an early 7-6 score, but the Eagles scattered two 3-0 runs to quietly pull away for the six-point difference. They used their winning momentum to take an early 10-2 lead in game two before the Bulls battled back behind the play of Burd. She had four kills during a 9-1 Buffalo run that got the Bulls within two, 22-20. Buffalo, however, later hurt itself with three straight attack errors that put the Eagles up by five, 26-21, before the 30-24 final. EMU broke an 8-8 tie in game three with a 6-0 run and later used two 4-0 runs to give it an easy 30-21 win for the shutout.

Burd also led the Bulls with four blocks, while senior Amy Brown (Pittsburgh, PA/Mt. Lebanon) contributed six kills, 12 digs, 27 assists and two blocks. Brown's six kills tied her career high and came on seven attempts for a match-high .714 hitting percentage. Junior Nikki Morzenti (Safety Harbor, FL/Clearwater) tied Brown for the team high in digs with 12, while senior Katie Weekley (Dayton, OH/Chaminade-Julienne) and junior Jenna Mapé (Calgary, Alberta/Father Lacombe) added eight and seven kills, respectively.

Melissa Bartlett (16 kills, 10 digs) and Becky Baltare (10 kills, 10 digs) each posted double-doubles for the Eagles, while Ashley Cudney had a match-high 15 digs. Lindsay Piccolini had match highs of 16 kills and eight blocks, and Kate Sulewski finished with 53 assists and six digs.

The Bulls are next at Central Michigan Saturday night for a 7 pm clash with the Chippewas.
