Bulls Split Fifth Straight Weekend

Another weekend and another split for the UB volleyball team as they travelled to Michigan this past weekend for a pair of contests. The Bulls lost 3-0 on Friday night to Central Michigan, their first three-set loss since Sep. 5 against Pittsburgh. The Bulls then rebounded nicely to defeat Eastern Michigan on Saturday night, 3-1.

Approaching School Records

The win on Saturday night gave UB 14 wins on the season and five in Mid-American Conference play. Both of those tie school records since joining the MAC in 1998. The Bulls had 14 wins during the 2006 season, while UB has not had five conference wins in a season since 2003. The Division I school record for wins in a season is 22, which the Bulls set in 1995, their second year in the Mid-Continent Conference.

Individuals Nearing Season Record Marks

Several Bulls are nearing the top 10 in multiple single-season record categories this year. Senior Dani Silvers is averaging 3.49 kills per set, which is currently seventh all-time. Junior Lindsey Schlegel is leading the team with 844 assists and she is on pace to break into the top 10 in that category. Schlegel is also fourth all-time in school history for career assists with 2,706 and she still has one year left. Schlegel’s 9.93 assists per set are also good enough for fourth all-time. Freshman Tori Beckman is also on pace to break into the top 10 in single-season digs as she is just 13 shy with a team-high 394. Beckman’s 4.64 digs per set are currently second all-time.

Up Next

The Bulls make the short trip across town to face Canisius on Tuesday night for their final non-conference match of the year. UB then returns home for conference play this weekend. The Bulls host Bowling Green on Friday night at 7:00 pm and Miami (OH) on Saturday at 5:00 pm.
