Volleyball Weekly ReleaseClick here for a PDF of the weekly release Bulls Drop Two Conference Matches The University at Buffalo volleyball team dropped two Mid-American Conference matches over the weekend, both by 3-0 scores. On Friday, the Bowling Green Falcons out-hit and out-blocked the Bulls en route to a 30-10, 33-31, 30-20 win. The Miami RedHawks then had three players in double figures in kills to lead them to a 30-24, 31-29, 30-20 win over the Bulls on Saturday.
Weekley (nine kills, five blocks) and junior Lauren Burd (York, PA/Central York) (nine kills, six blocks) led the Bulls against Miami on Saturday. Junior Jenna Mapé (Calgary, Alberta/Father Lacombe) finished with six kills, nine digs and three blocks, while Clark added seven kills, five digs and three blocks. Sophomore Lizaiha Garcia (Dayton, OH/Beavercreek) had a team-high 14 digs and senior Amy Brown (Pittsburgh, PA/Mt. Lebanon) recorded 35 assists, seven digs and four blocks. The Bulls had 11.5 blocks in the match compared to just six by Miami.
Junior Nikki Morzenti (Safety Harbor, FL/Clearwater) recorded her 900th career kill at Bowling Green on Friday night and then moved into UB's top 10 in career kills at Miami on Saturday night. Morzenti has 912 career kills, good for 10th place all-time in UB volleyball history behind teammate Katie Weekley (Dayton, OH/Chaminade-Julienne). Weekley currently ranks ninth all-time in UB history with 926 career kills. Only seven players in UB volleyball history have reached the 1,000 mark for career kills. Weekley Moving Up on Career Blocks Lists Senior Katie Weekley (Dayton, OH/Chaminade-Julienne) is continuing her climb up the Mid-American Conference's and UB's career blocks lists. With a minimum of seven matches remaining in her career, Weekley currently has 105 solo blocks (seventh all-time in UB history), 429 block assists (third all-time in UB history and sixth all-time in MAC history) and 534 total blocks (second all-time in UB history and eighth all-time in MAC history). The Bulls are at Eastern Michigan on Friday, October 28 and at
Central Michigan on Saturday, October 29 to end a four-match road-trip. Both
matches begin at 7 pm. Buffalo then returns home for the final four matches of
the regular season, beginning with Toledo on Thursday, November 3 and ending
with Western Michigan on Saturday, November 12. The 2005
Mid-American Conference Tournament begins on Tuesday, November 15 with
first-round matches at campus sites. |
