Matikosh, Henry, Lacour lead the way; Shiels registers 1,000 kills

BUFFALO, NY - Sophomore Lindsay Matikosh (North Tonawanda, NY/North Tonawanda), freshman Katie Henry (Buffalo, NY/City Honors) and senior Larissa LaCour (West Islip, NY/West Islip) recorded double-doubles as Buffalo shook off a slow start to down Binghamton in four games in a non-conference women's volleyball match at Alumni Arena.

The Bulls dropped game one, 30-28, before rebounding to take consecutive games by scores of 30-15, 32-30 and 30-25 to improve to 5-15 overall. Binghamton fell to 7-11 with the loss.

Senior Keri Shiels (Baldwin, NY/Baldwin) had six kills in game one to become just the sixth Buffalo player to go over 1,000 kills in a career. The outside hitter now has 1,002 kills in her stellar career, joining Candie Hirst, Kelley Brennan, Paula Collins, Tracey Quider and Laurie Santelli in that exclusive club.

The Bulls turned the match around in game two as Henry came off the bench to spark Buffalo with four kills and the Bulls gained control at the net. Henry would finish the match with 10 kills and a career-high 17 digs.

The Bulls fought off a match point in game four to win, 32-30, as Matikosh hammered six of her team-high 14 kills and finished the evening with 16 digs and three aces as well. Setter Larissa LaCour set the table as Buffalo pounded out 24 kills in the third game alone. LaCour would finish with 51 assists and 12 digs for the match.

Buffalo registered 13 team blocks on the evening with sophomore Alexis Bouie (Albion, NY/Albion) registering six block assists and one solo. Bouie also had nine kills in the match. Freshman Molly Schrantz (Depew, NY/Lancaster) came off the bench to register four kills and eight digs to help in the winning effort.

Buffalo will travel to Bowling Green (Friday) and Central Michigan (Saturday) for Mid-American Conference clashes this weekend.
