Bulls Fall In Two Conference Matches

The University at Buffalo volleyball team dropped its two conference matches this past weekend. The two contests served as UB’s first home matches in nearly a month. UB fell to a red-hot Bowling Green team on Friday night, dropping the contest 3-0. UB fell by the same margin the following night to Miami (OH). Each squad continued winning streaks against UB as Bowling Green won its 16th consecutive match, while the RedHawks pulled in their seventh.

Prior to UB’s match against Central Michigan on Saturday night, the Bulls will recognize their three seniors who will be playing in their final regular season home match. Amongst those seniors is Brandie Clark (Medicine Hat, Alberta/Medicine Hat) who served as the team’s setter this season after moving over from the right side following last year. Clark has 923 assists on the year and is well on her way to joining the top 10 in single-season assists at UB. Buffalo’s two senior outside hitters, Nikki Morzenti (Safety Harbor, FL/Clearwater) and Jenna Mapé (Calgary, Alberta/Father Lacombe), have combined for just under half of UB’s kills on the season. Morzenti will go down as one of the greatest players to ever wear the blue and white as she is just one of five players to have 1,000 career kills and 1,000 career digs. Mapé flourished under the new coaching staff these last two years and has made a significant impact. This season, she leads the team in kills and total attacks.

UB In The MAC Rankings

The Bulls can be found in several of the MAC leader categories. As a team, UB is second in the MAC in service aces, registering 1.91 per game. Buffalo is also currently third in the conference in total blocks at 2.36 per game, which sits behind Bowling Green’s 2.89 per game and Central Michigan at 2.58. Alyssa Fitchette (Watertown, NY/Watertown/Genesee CC) sits at tenth in hitting percentage at .285. Nikki Morzenti is seventh in service aces at 0.37 per game, while Jenna Mapé is tenth at 0.36 per game . Kelsey Lueders (Littleton, CO/Chatfield) and Fitchette remain amongst the blocking leaders as Lueders is tied for second at 1.32 per game and Fitchette is tenth at 1.04. Lizaiha Garcia (Dayton, OH/Beavercreek) is currently ninth in the league in digs at 4.65 per game, but in conference matches only she jumps up to seventh at 5.00 per game.

The Bulls wrap up the home portion of their schedule with two conference matches this upcoming weekend. UB hosts Eastern Michigan on Friday night and Central Michigan on Saturday. Both matches are set to begin at 7:00 pm.
