Bulls Drop A Pair In Michigan The University at Buffalo volleyball team visited Eastern Michigan and Central Michigan this past weekend, but was unable to come away with a victory, falling in both matches, 3-0. The Bulls put up quite a fight against the Eagles as they had opportunities to win each of the three games. The Bulls are in the midst of a five-match road trip, which will be there final road trip of the season. Bigelow Returns Strong Freshman Richelle Bigelow (Littleton, CO/Dakota Ridge) returned to the UB lineup this past Friday after missing 13 straight matches with an injury. Bigelow returned on Friday to be UB’s top offensive threat, recording 11 kills and just one error against the Eagles on 34 total swings. Bigelow added another 10 kills on 22 total swings against Central Michigan. Although she has played in just nine matches, Bigelow leads the team with 2.66 kills per game.
Kill Leaders Hail From Rocky Mountains Some of UB’s top players in the kills department hail from Colorado. Junior Claudia Neba (Aurora, CO/Smoky Hill/Rutgers) leads the team with 167 kills while sophomore Kelsey Lueders (Littleton, CO/Chatfield) has 141 kills. Freshman Marisa Hornbaker (Colorado Springs, CO/Colorado Springs Christian) is fifth on the team with 128 kills. Bigelow, who also hails from Colorado, would be amongst the leaders if not for her injury as she is averaging 2.66 kills per game. No Rest For Four Bulls The Bulls have had four players who have seen action in all 87 games so far this season. Senior Lizaiha Garcia (Dayton, OH/Beavercreek) has been the libero in every game and leads the team with 352 digs on the year. Freshman Lindsey Schlegel (Lancaster, NY/Lancaster) has been the setter for each game and she leads the team with 730 assists and 32 service aces. UB’s two middle blockers, Lueders and Kristin Bignell (Drayton, Ontario/Norwell District) have also seen action in all 87 games as they have combined for 275 kills and 121 total blocks.
Up Next
The Bulls remain on the road as they travel to Kent State on Friday night for a 7:00 pm match with the Golden Flashes. UB will then travel to nationally-ranked Ohio for a 7:00 pm match with the Bobcats on Saturday night. |
