BUFFALO, NY - The University at Buffalo volleyball team dropped a 3-1 match to the visiting Central Michigan Chippewas this afternoon in Alumni Arena, 30-16, 23-30, 30-22, 30-22. Junior Emily Dills (East Bethany, NY/Pavilion/San Francisco) led the Bulls with 12 kills, tying her career high. The loss drops Buffalo's record to 9-14 overall and 1-8 in the Mid-American Conference, while CMU improved to 8-12 overall and 4-3 in the MAC.

The Chippewas started the match out strong and took an easy 30-16 win in game one to take the early advantage. The Bulls evened the match at one game apiece with a come-from-behind win in game two. The Chippewas led by six points, 16-10, but the Bulls tied the score at 16-16 on a service ace by Dills and then took a 17-16 lead on a kill by junior Lindsay Matikosh (North Tonawanda, NY/North Tonawanda). Buffalo never trailed in the game after that and ended it at 30-23 on a solo block by Matikosh on an attack by CMU's Liz Passen. The Bulls led early in game three, 11-7, but the Chippewas earned their first lead of the game at 13-12 on a kill by Melissa Reynolds, and then got consecutive service aces by Passen to end the game at 30-22. CMU then finished things off with another 30-22 win in game four to end the match.

In addition to Dills, Matikosh also posted double figures in kills for the Bulls with 10 while also adding a team-high 16 digs and four service aces. Sophomore Molly Schrantz (Depew, NY/Lancaster) and freshman Katie Weekley (Dayton, OH/Chaminade-Julienne) finished with eight kills apiece, and Schrantz added 23 assists and eight digs. Freshman Amy Brown (Pittsburgh, PA/Mt. Lebanon) posted a double-double with 19 assists and 10 digs, and sophomore Kathryn Henry (Buffalo, NY/City Honors) added 13 digs from the libero position.

The Bulls take to the road next for matches at Western Michigan on Friday, October 25 and at Eastern Michigan on Saturday, October 26. Both matches are 7 pm starts.
