Bulls Continue Trend Of Weekend Splits The University at Buffalo volleyball team split its matches this past weekend falling on Friday night to Northern Illinois, 3-1, before defeating West Division-leading Western Michigan on Saturday night, 3-2. The Bulls are now 4-4 in the MAC, which is their best ever record through eight conference matches. UB is also just one win shy of tying its high for MAC wins in a season. Dig ‘Em Freshman Tori Beckman had a career weekend for the Bulls as she notched 67 digs in the two matches. Beckman became the first UB player to record 30 digs in a match since 2006 when she had 31 on Friday night. That career high lasted for all of about 24 hours as she had 36 digs against Western Michigan on Saturday, the most by a UB player since Rebecca Meade had 33 digs against Youngstown State on Sept. 5, 1999. As a team, UB had 94 digs on the night.
Five Alive The Bulls are now 3-1 this season on matches that have gone into five sets. UB defeated Fordham in the second match of the season in five and their only five-set defeat came to Syracuse, where the Bulls overcame a two-set deficit just to force the fifth. UB has now claimed five-set victories in back-to-back weeks as the Bulls overcame a 2-1 deficit to Akron as they won the fourth and fifth set last week and then against the Broncos the Bulls were able to bounce back after giving up a 2-1 lead in the match. The three five-set victories are the most for a UB team since 2003, when it had four on the year. Up Next The Bulls travel to Michigan as they continue play against the MAC West. UB will face Central Michigan on Friday night and then head to Eastern Michigan on Saturday night for a match against the Eagles. Both contests are set for 7:00 pm.
