Volleyball Weekly ReleaseClick here for a PDF of the weekly release Bulls Defeat Kent, Drop Two The University at Buffalo volleyball team won its first conference road match of the season last Thursday, defeating Kent State in four games. UB was unable to keep its momentum as it dropped back-to-back 3-0 decisions the next two nights, first to nationally-ranked, Ohio and then a non-conference match to IPFW.
UB Ties School Record For Kills The Bulls entered the school record books on Thursday as they tied a record for kills in a four-game match. UB registered 74 kills against the Golden Flashes, tying a record UB also set against Kent State on November 12, 1999. In that contest, UB had four different players with double-digit kills, led by 18 from sophomore Alyssa Fitchette (Watertown, NY/Watertown/Genesee CC). Jim Lodes Wins 300 Second-year head coach Jim Lodes recorded a career milestone on Thursday night, winning his 300th match as a college coach. In his second year at UB, Lodes has a record of 24-32. The majority of Lodes’ victories came as a head coach at Rochester Institute of Technology, where he compiled a record of 170-59. Lodes would pick up another 106 wins as a head coach at Brockport and then Lees-McRae College. The 13 wins right now are the most UB has recorded since 1997.
UB In The MAC Rankings The Bulls can be found in several of the MAC leader categories. As a team, UB is leading the MAC in service aces, registering 1.99 per game. Buffalo is also currently third in the conference in total blocks at 2.42 per game, which sits behind Bowling Green’s 2.91 per game and Central Michigan at 2.55. Alyssa Fitchette (Watertown, NY/Watertown/Genesee CC) sits at seventh in hitting percentage at .292. Nikki Morzenti (Safety Harbor, FL/Clearwater) and Jenna Mapé (Calgary, Alberta/Father Lacombe) are tied for seventh in service aces at 0.37 per game. Kelsey Lueders (Littleton, CO/Chatfield) and Fitchette remain amongst the blocking leaders as Lueders is tied for second at 1.32 per game and Fitchette is sixth at 1.07. Lizaiha Garcia (Dayton, OH/Beavercreek) is currently ninth in the league in digs at 4.64 per game, but in conference matches only she jumps up to sixth at 5.04 per game. Up Next
