Bulls Fall to CMU, 3-0

Katie Weekley has team-high 10 kills, six blocks in loss

BUFFALO, NY - The University at Buffalo volleyball team dropped a 3-0 decision to visiting Central Michigan tonight in Alumni Arena, 30-21, 31-29, 30-25. With the loss, the Bulls fall to 7-14 overall and 0-8 in the Mid-American Conference. Central Michigan improved to 5-14 overall and 2-7 in the MAC.

The Bulls were led by junior Katie Weekley (Dayton, OH/Chaminade-Julienne) with a team-high 10 kills and six blocks, including two solos. Sophomore Lauren Burd (York, PA/Central York) had five blocks and freshman Tammy Julé (Regina Beach, Saskatchewan/Riffel) and sophomore Brandie Clark (Medicine Hat, Alberta/Medicine Hat) added three blocks apiece for the Bulls, who had 12 team blocks in the match. Clark also finished with 30 assists and two kills, and sophomore Nikki Morzenti (Safety Harbor, FL/Clearwater) recorded eight kills, a team-high 13 digs and two blocks. Freshman libero Lizaiha Garcia (Dayton, OH/Beavercreek) had 11 digs. Freshman Sarah Streib (Baldwinsville, NY/Baker) had four kills, four digs, two assists and two service aces. She served six straight points for the Bulls in game two to get them out to a 23-20 lead before CMU mounted a comeback to win 31-29.

The Chippewas were led by Emily Lovejoy with 14 kills and 14 digs and Kristen Butler with 13 kills. Meghan Moore also reached double digits in kills with 11, and setter Jaimeson Whitman finished with 43 assists, three kills and eight digs. Libero Ali McCrite had 13 digs.

The Bulls are on the road for their next four matches, beginning at Ohio next Friday, October 22 at 7 pm.
