Bulls Shut Out By Ball State
The Cardinals dominated game one, recording 21 kills and hitting .432 compared to Buffalo's 11 kills and .348 hitting percentage. Buffalo never led in the game, and a block by BSU's Julie Zylka and Jaime Stanley ended the game with a 30-20 score. The Cardinals appeared to be on their way to winning game two just as easily as game one as they led by as many as seven points on two different occasions, 17-10 and 21-14. The Bulls battled back, however, tying the score at 21-21 on a kill by senior Amelia Liddle (Toronto, Ontario/Leaside) and then taking a 24-23 lead on a kill by sophomore Alexis Bouie (Albion, NY/Albion). The two teams exchanged points from that point on until three straight Ball State kills gave the Cardinals a two-point advantage, 33-31, to end the game. Ball State had an early lead in game three as well, but the Bulls kept tying the score and eventually took a 24-22 lead on a kill by Bouie and a service ace by senior Heather Barfuss (Huntington, NY/John H. Glenn). A service error by Barfuss, four Ball State kills and three Buffalo attack errors, along with a kill by Matikosh ended the game with a 30-25 score in Ball State's favor. Bouie finished the match with eight kills and a block, and Barfuss added five kills, nine digs and two blocks. Liddle added six kills and two blocks, and senior setter Larissa LaCour (West Islip, NY/West Islip) finished with 33 assists and six digs. After playing five straight matches at home, the Bulls will take to the road for their next two.
Buffalo plays at Kent State on Friday, October 19 at 7 pm and at Akron on Saturday, October 20 at 3 pm. |
