KENT, OH – The University at Buffalo volleyball team put together a total team effort and picked up its first conference road victory of the season, defeating Kent State, 3-1, Thursday night at the M.A.C. Center. The victory was the 300th of the head coach Jim Lodes’ collegiate career. The win also improved UB to 13-10 on the season and 2-5 in conference play.

The Bulls, who won the match, 30-28, 30-22, 19-30, 30-25, received several career performances on the evening, led by a trio of sophomore transfers. Alyssa Fitchette (Watertown, NY/Watertown/Genesee CC) hit a match-high .593 as she recorded a team-high 18 kills on 27 swings, recording just two errors. Kate Love (Pittsford, NY/Pittsford Sutherland/Temple) had her best match as a UB student-athlete, notching 15 kills on the evening. Claudia Neba (Aurora, CO/Smoky Hill) added to the offense, will 11 kills against the Golden Flashes. Senior Jenna Mapé (Calgary, Alberta/Father Lacombe) recorded a double-double for UB, recording 13 kills and a team-high 18 digs. The 74 kills recorded by UB ties the school record for kills in a four-game match, which Buffalo set against Kent State in 1999.

UB was able to attribute its victory to a strong hitting efficiency as it outhit its opponent .331 to .192 on the evening. The Bulls had two particular strong games as they hit a .425 in game two and a .394 in the match-clinching game four. The .331 hitting efficiency is a season-high for Buffalo.

Kent State (11-8, 4-3 MAC) was led by 21 kills from Sarah Wilber and 20 digs from Laura Jensen. Katie Veatch added a team-high 44 assists for the Golden Flashes.
