BUFFALO, NY - Sophomore Lindsay Matikosh (North Tonawanda, NY/North Tonawanda) finished the night with a double-double of 13 kills and 14 digs, but it was not enough to lead the University at Buffalo volleyball team to a victory over the visiting Western Michigan Broncos at Alumni Arena. After winning game one by a 31-29 score, the Bulls lost three straight games by scores of 30-25, 30-25 and 30-17 to drop their record to 4-12 overall and 0-7 in the Mid-American Conference. Western Michigan improves to 8-6 overall and 3-4 in the MAC.

The Bulls started the match with a 10-4 run and got seven kills from Matikosh in game one to dominate the Broncos early on. Western Michigan battled back to tie the score, but a kill by Matikosh and a kill by freshman Katie Henry (Buffalo, NY/City Honors) gave Buffalo the needed two-point advantage to end the game at 31-29. The momentum shifted in the Broncos favor to start game two, and they never relinquished it en route to winning three straight games. Western Michigan hit .356 in the final three games of the match compared to Buffalo's .170, and they got 17 kills from Amanda Fry, 16 kills from Carman Malone and 15 kills from M'Myia McQuirter. For Buffalo, senior Heather Barfuss (Huntington, NY/John H. Glenn) and sophomore Becky Ashare (Coram, NY/Longwood) each finished the match with nine kills, and sophomore Alexis Bouie (Albion, NY/Albion) led the Bulls with four blocks. As a team, Western Michigan had 11 blocks while Buffalo finished with five in the match. Henry had a match and career-high six service aces for Buffalo.

The Bulls (4-12 overall, 0-7 Mid-American) remain home to host Ball State in a Noon match on Sunday, October 14 at Alumni Arena.
