Bulls Fall At Ball State, 3-1

BUFFALO, NY – The University at Buffalo volleyball team dropped a 3-1 decision to Ball State on Saturday night at Worthen Arena as the Bulls were unable to sustain the momentum from a set two victory. The loss drops UB’s record to 12-7 on the year and 3-3 in the MAC.

Ball State took the contest 25-22, 17-25, 25-16, 25-15 as the Cardinals hit .286 opposed to .172 for the Bulls. After falling in a tightly-contested first set, the Bulls defeated Ball State 25-17 in the second. However, the host Cardinals won both the third and fourth to take the match.

The Bulls were led by 16 kills from junior Marisa Hornbaker who also added five digs and a service ace. Junior Lindsey Schlegel added five kills, 30 assists and 11 digs for UB, while junior Kristin Bignell had six kills and five total blocks. Freshman Tori Beckman had 12 digs on the night and a team-high two service aces.

Ball State was led by 13 kills from Kelsey Brandl and 11 kills from Alisha Green and Jennifer Boyd. Kaylee Schembra added 12 digs and Brittany McGinnis had 43 assists.

The Bulls return to Alumni Arena this upcoming weekend for a pair of home contests. The Bulls face Northern Illinois on Friday night in their annual “Dig Pink” match and then face Western Michigan on Saturday night. Both matches begin at 7:00 pm.
