Volleyball Falls to Akron in Four Games
The Bulls opened the match with two service aces by junior Amy Brown (Pittsburgh, PA/Mt. Lebanon), but the Zips then jumped out to a 20-9 lead, largely aided by the Bulls' hitting woes. Buffalo had just seven kills and made 11 errors on 41 attacks in game one for a -.098 hitting percentage. The Bulls hit just .057 in the match compared to Akron's .241 hitting percentage. Schrantz was the only player to reach double figures in kills for the Bulls. Junior Katie Weekley (Dayton, OH/Chaminade-Julienne) finished with nine kills and five blocks, and freshman Sarah Streib (Baldwinsville, NY/Baker) posted career highs of six kills and eight digs. Brown finished with 42 assists, 12 digs, three kills and three blocks, and freshman libero Lizaiha Garcia (Dayton, OH/Beavercreek) had a team-high 21 digs. The Zips had three players reach double digits in kills, led by Jennifer Stewart with 17. Stewart also added 16 digs and a match-high seven blocks, including four solos. Emily Kocinski had 14 kills and 17 digs, and Molly Rutledge added 10 kills, six digs and three blocks. Libero Lori Snider had a match-high 22 digs. The Bulls conclude their six-match homestand next week when they host Marshall at 7 pm
on Thursday, October 14 and Central Michigan at 7 pm on Friday, October 15. |
