Volleyball Weekly ReleaseClick here for a PDF of the weekly release Bulls Suffer Setback On The Road The University at Buffalo volleyball team dropped its two conference matches this past weekend, falling to Miami (OH) on Friday night, before dropping a contest to a hot-hitting Bowling Green squad on Saturday afternoon. The Bulls still have over half of their five-match road trip remaining, playing three road contests this upcoming week.
Streib Comes On As Of Late Junior Sarah Streib (Baldwinsville, NY/Baldwinsville) has given UB quality playing time after serving as a reserve player for most of the beginning of the season. Streib is one of the team’s most dominant servers and has six service aces on the year. Seeing time in 12 matches, the junior outside hitter also has eight kills, 14 digs and one block assist. Can You Dig It? Junior Lizaiha Garcia (Dayton, OH/Beavercreek) currently leads the team with 361 digs on the year - 4.81 per game. The junior libero became the tenth player to record over 1,000 career digs earlier this season. Her 1,262 career digs have her fifth all-time and as just a junior is looking to break the all-time career digs record at UB, which currently stands at 1,525.
UB In The MAC Rankings The Bulls can be found in several of the MAC leader categories. As a team, UB is leading the MAC in service aces, registering 2.11 per game. Buffalo is also currently second in the conference in total blocks at 2.63 per game, which sits behind Bowling Green’s 2.91 per game. Alyssa Fitchette (Watertown, NY/Watertown/Genesee CC) sits at eighth in hitting percentage at .299. Nikki Morzenti (Safety Harbor, FL/Clearwater) and Jenna Mapé (Calgary, Alberta/Father Lacombe) are tied for seventh in service aces at 0.40 per game. Kelsey Lueders (Littleton, CO/Chatfield) and Fitchette remain amongst the blocking leaders as Lueders is tied for second at 1.32 per game and Fitchette is fifth at 1.19. Garcia is currently seventh in the league in digs at 4.81 per game, but in conference matches only she jumps up to sixth at 5.53 per game. Up Next
The Bulls wrap up a five-match road trip with three matches this upcoming week. UB heads to Kent State on Thursday, Oct. 12 for a 7:00 pm match with the Golden Flashes. The Bulls then move on to nationally-ranked Ohio on Friday, Oct. 13 at 7:00 pm before finishing it off with a non-conference tilt at IPFW on Saturday, Oct. 14, which is also at 7:00 pm. |
