Volleyball Weekly ReleaseBULLS LOSE THREE MAC MATCHES The Bulls lost three Mid-American Conference matches last week, giving them a 4-13 overall record and an 0-6 conference mark. On Tuesday, October 3, Buffalo lost a three-game match to the Akron Zips, 2-15, 5-15, 10-15, despite a nine-kill, nine-dig, two-block performance from freshman Lindsay Matikosh (North Tonawanda, NY/North Tonawanda). Junior Larissa LaCour (West Islip, NY/West Islip) had an error-free hitting night with six kills on 10 attempts. She also added 27 assists and seven digs. On Friday, October 6, Buffalo dropped a four-game match to Miami, OH. After a 15-8 Buffalo win in game one, the RedHawks put together 15-6 and 15-1 wins in games two and three and then pulled out a 15-13 win in game four to earn their first MAC victory of the season. Junior Wendy Ryder (Bernhards Bay, NY/Genesee Community College) led Buffalo's attack with nine kills and six digs, and freshman Alexis Bouie (Albion, NY/Albion) recorded career highs of six kills and five blocks in her first collegiate start. The Bulls' followed that loss with a 15-1, 15-4, 15-9 loss at Ball State. Entering the match, the Cardinals were an undefeated 5-0 in the MAC and they were ranked seventh in the NCAA's Mid-East Region. Matikosh and junior Keri Shiels (Baldwin, NY/Baldwin) led the Bulls with eight and seven kills, respectively, and a team-high four digs apiece. LaCour also recorded four digs, and she finished the night with 24 assists. BOUIE STRONG IN FIRST CAREER START Freshman Alexis Bouie (Albion, NY/Albion) recorded career highs of six kills and five blocks in her first collegiate start at Miami on Friday, October 6. Bouie also added three digs against the RedHawks, and she followed that performance with one kill, one block and one dig in her second start of the year at Ball State. For the season, Bouie has 29 kills, 17 digs and 12 blocks. MATIKOSH HAVING SOLID FRESHMAN SEASON Freshman Lindsay Matikosh (North Tonawanda, NY/North Tonawanda) led the Bulls last week with totals of 25 kills and 18 digs in Buffalo's three matches. She led UB with nine kills and nine digs against Akron, and she posted eight kills against both Miami and Ball State. Matikosh leads Buffalo with 155 digs this season (2.58 per game), and she is second on the team with 126 kills (2.10 per game). Matikosh also has 13 blocks, 11 assists and eight service aces in her freshman campaign. THIS COMING WEEK Buffalo plays its sixth straight game on the road this Friday, October 13, when it travels to Bowling Green for a 7 p.m. matchup with the Falcons. The Bulls then return home to Alumni Arena for two straight games, on Sunday, October 15 against Toledo at 3 p.m. and on Wednesday, October 18 against Kent State at 7 p.m.
