Bulls Suffer Heart-Breaking Five-Game Loss to Kent State

Katie Weekley has career-high 14 blocks; Brandie Clark has triple-double

BUFFALO, NY - The University at Buffalo volleyball team came close to recording its first Mid-American Conference victory of the season tonight over visiting Kent State, but the Golden Flashes held on for a 3-2 win, 30-24, 26-30, 30-25, 24-30, 15-10. Kent State (7-6 overall, 4-2 MAC) entered the match ranked 14th in the Mideast Region in the RichKern.com/AVCA Division I Regional Rankings released on October 4. The Bulls (7-11 overall, 0-5 MAC) were led by junior Katie Weekley (Dayton, OH/Chaminade-Julienne), who recorded a career-high 14 blocks, and sophomore Brandie Clark (Medicine Hat, Alberta/Medicine Hat), who posted a triple-double with a career-high 10 kills, a career-high 39 assists and 14 digs.

Freshman Tammy Julé (Regina Beach, Saskatchewan/Riffel) led Buffalo with 13 kills, and senior Molly Schrantz (Depew, NY/Lancaster) recorded a double-double with 10 kills and 12 digs. Sophomore Wendy Haskell (Clarence Center, NY/Clarence) tied her career high with seven kills, and freshman libero Lizaiha Garcia (Dayton, OH/Beavercreek) finished with a team-high 22 digs. Freshman Sarah Streib (Baldwinsville, NY/Baker) recorded one kill, three service aces and four digs, and she gave the Bulls a spark off the bench in game two when she came in and served nine straight points to get Buffalo out to a 16-7 lead.

Kent State was led by Danielle Holt with a match-high 24 kills and 13 digs and Ruth Ladurner-Schnitzer with 15 digs and eight blocks. Libero Laura Jensen had a match-high 25 digs.

The Bulls are home again on Sunday, hosting Akron at 2 pm in Alumni Arena.
