BUFFALO, NY - The University at Buffalo volleyball team put forth a record-setting performance to pull out a 3-2 win at local rival Canisius tonight, 30-21, 30-23, 30-32, 28-30, 15-9. The Bulls set a school record for team hitting percentage in a five-game match (.349, 87 kills, 28 errors, 169 attempts). Senior Katie Weekley (Dayton, OH/Chaminade-Julienne) hit a team-best .657 while recording a career-high 26 kills, just five away from the school record for a five-game match, and senior Amy Brown (Pittsburgh, PA/Mt. Lebanon) had a career-high 77 assists, just four away from the school record.

The Bulls seemed to have control of the match with 30-21 and 30-23 wins in the first two games. The Griffs, however, grabbed some momentum with a 32-30 win in game three, led by six kills from Mary Boller and five kills from Leigh Launhardt. The Griffs then broke a 28-28 tie in game four with two straight kills to knot the match at two games apiece. Canisius had seven service aces in game four, including three by Lauren Lackovich, to help force the fifth and deciding game.

Buffalo never trailed in game five and used a 4-0 run midway through to pull away from the Griffs en route to the 15-9 win. Junior Nikki Morzenti (Safety Harbor, FL/Clearwater) had her third kill of the game for the final point that ended the match, and Brown had nine assists on the Bulls' 10 kills in the final game.

Weekley added a match-high seven blocks to go along with her match-high 26 kills, and Brown also had seven digs and three blocks. Morzenti finished with 21 kills and 11 digs, and junior Jenna Mapé (Calgary, Alberta/Father Lacombe) added 17 kills, nine digs and four blocks. Junior Lauren Burd (York, PA/Central York) had a career-high 14 kills, and junior Brandie Clark (Medicine Hat, Alberta/Medicine Hat) had a team-high 12 digs.

Canisius (6-11 overall) was led by Boller with 19 kills and six blocks and Launhardt with 11 kills and four blocks. Lackovich added 35 assists, 11 digs and a match-high five service aces. The Griffs had 14 service aces in the match.

The Bulls (8-9 overall, 0-4 MAC) return to Mid-American Conference play this weekend with home matches against Miami (OH) on Friday, October 7 and Bowling Green on Saturday, October 8. Both matches begin at 6 pm in Alumni Arena.
