Bulls Win Second Straight MAC Match

Morzenti and Matikosh have 19 kills apiece to lead UB to a 3-2 win over Bowling Green

BUFFALO, NY - The University at Buffalo volleyball team won its second straight Mid-American Conference match in five games, pulling out a 3-2 win over Bowling Green this afternoon in Alumni Arena. Game scores were 30-20, 29-31, 30-19, 18-30 and 15-11.

Senior Lindsay Matikosh (North Tonawanda, NY/North Tonawanda) and freshman Nikki Morzenti (Safety Harbor, FL/Clearwater) recorded 19 kills apiece to lead the Bulls' attack. With the win, Buffalo improves to 7-10 overall and 2-2 in the MAC, while Bowling Green fell to 9-7 overall and 1-2 in the MAC.

The Bulls found themselves down 7-3 in the deciding fifth game, but they came back to tie the score at 8-8 and again at 10-10. A kill by Morzenti, a service error by Bowling Green's Nadia Bedricky and a block by Matikosh and sophomore Katie Weekley (Dayton, OH/Chaminade-Julienne) put the Bulls ahead 13-10 before Bowling Green got a kill from Melissa Mohr for its final point in the game. Kills by Weekley and junior Molly Schrantz (Depew, NY/Lancaster) then put the game and the match away for the Bulls.

Schrantz finished with 17 kills and a match-high 17 digs, and Weekley finished the day with nine kills and a match-high 11 blocks. Morzenti and sophomore Amy Brown (Pittsburgh, PA/Mt. Lebanon) had 14 digs apiece, and Brown also added 54 assists. The Falcons were led by Susie Norris with 18 kills and 14 digs and Taylor Twite with 16 kills and eight blocks.

The Bulls will now hit the road for their next three matches. They play at Toledo on Saturday, October 11 at 3 pm, at local rival Niagara on Wednesday, October 15 at 7 pm and at Akron on Friday, October 17 at 7 pm. They return home on Sunday, October 19 for a 2 pm match against Ball State.
