Bowling Green Outlasts UB Volleyball, 3-2
Alexis Bouie Posts Career-High 17 Kills to Lead Bulls in Five-Game Loss
 | | Alexis Bouie | BUFFALO, NY - Sophomore
Alexis Bouie (Albion, NY/Albion) recorded a career-high 17 kills
and the Bulls fought back from a 2-0 deficit to force a fifth game, but the Falcons of Bowling Green
prevailed in the end in Mid-American Conference volleyball action at Alumni Arena. Bowling
Green squeaked by with a 30-27 win in game one and then seemed to be in control of the match with a
30-21 win in game two, but Buffalo outplayed the Falcons in games three and four, winning by 30-28 and
30-27 scores to force a fifth and deciding game, which Bowling Green then dominated by a 15-6 score.
The loss drops Buffalo's record to 3-10 overall and 0-5 in the MAC, while BGSU improves to 8-2
overall and 2-1 in the MAC. The Bulls were swept by the Falcons, 3-0, in two matches last year, and the
Falcons entered tonight's match ranked ninth in the NCAA's Mideast Region in the first regional ranking
of the season, released on Tuesday, October 2.
 | | Amelia Liddle | The Bulls got off to a quick 5-2 lead in game one, and a kill and an ace by senior
Heather Barfuss (Huntington, NY/John H.
Glenn) tied the score at 26-26 late in the game. Following an
attack error by Bowling Green's Natalie Becker that put the Bulls up 27-26, the Falcons strung together
four straight points to take the game by a 30-27 score. After a decisive 30-21 BGSU win in game two,
the Bulls took game three by a 30-28 score, largely due to the play of Bouie, who had six of her 17
kills, including Buffalo's final two points in the game, and senior
Amelia Liddle (Toronto,
Ontario/Leaside), who had four of her 11 kills on the night. The Bulls then battled back from an 8-3 deficit in game
four and ended it with a 30-27 advantage on a kill by freshman
Molly Schrantz (Depew, NY/Lancaster).
Buffalo's comeback fell short in game five, despite it starting out with a kill by Bouie to put the Bulls
on the board first. The Falcons proceeded to outscore the Bulls by a 10-1 margin over the next 11 plays.
Buffalo kept fighting thanks to another kill by Bouie and a service ace by freshman
Katie Henry (Buffalo, NY/City
Honors), but it was only a matter of time before Bowling Green would come out on top.
A kill by Kristin Gamby ended the game, and the match, with a 15-6 score.
In addition to her 11 kills, Liddle led the Bulls with five blocks. Senior
Larissa LaCour (West Islip, NY/West
Islip) had 47 assists and 14 digs, and Barfuss added eight kills and a match-high 15
digs to the Bulls' effort. Henry added 12 digs and a match-high five service aces, and sophomore
Lindsay Matikosh (North Tonawanda, NY/North
Tonawanda) finished the night with nine kills, seven digs
and two blocks.
The Bulls are back in action at Alumni Arena on Sunday, October 7 at 3 pm against Miami (OH).
