BUFFALO, NY - The University at Buffalo volleyball team dropped a four-game match to the visiting Northern Illinois Huskies this evening at Alumni Arena, 30-28, 30-24, 25-30, 30-28. The Bulls were led by junior Lindsay Matikosh (North Tonawanda, NY/North Tonawanda) with match highs of 18 kills and 21 digs and junior Emily Dills (East Bethany, NY/Pavilion/San Francisco) who recorded career highs of 12 kills and 13 digs. The Huskies (9-6, 2-1 MAC) came in to Alumni Arena as the defending Mid-American Conference Tournament champions from 2001.

The Huskies jumped out to an early 8-3 lead in game one and led 24-17 before the Bulls rallied to tied the score at 27-27. The game ended in NIU's favor following a service error by Buffalo to give the Huskies a 30-28 decision. The lead in game two went back and forth in the beginning before the Huskies strung together some points to go up 19-13, and a kill by Jen VonderHaar ended the game at 30-24 to give Northern Illinois a 2-0 lead. The Bulls kept things going with a 30-25 win in game three, which ended on a block assist by junior Alexis Bouie (Albion, NY/Albion) and sophomore Molly Schrantz (Depew, NY/Lancaster) after the Huskies has staged a comeback with five straight points to get within one, 26-25. Buffalo kept the momentum in game four and led 5-2 early on, but the Huskies tied things up and then led by seven, 20-13. A kill by Schrantz capped a 13-6 UB run to tie the score at 26-26, but NIU's Tenisha Wilkins finished the match off with two straight kills to give the Huskies a 30-28 win in the game.

In addition to Matikosh and Dills, Schrantz also posted double figures in kills for the Bulls with 16. Freshman Amy Brown (Pittsburgh, PA/Mt. Lebanon) recorded 57 assists, and sophomore Kathryn Henry (Buffalo, NY/City Honors) finished with 15 digs.

The Bulls (8-10 overall, 0-4 MAC) host Western Michigan in a 7 pm match on Saturday, October 5 at Alumni Arena.
