A gutsy comeback by the University at Buffalo volleyball team was spoiled by the Akron Zips who pulled out a 15-12 win in game five to take a 3-2 decision from the Bulls in Mid-American Conference action Thursday night at James A. Rhodes Arena. The Zips took games one and two, 31-29 and 30-22, before the Bulls forced a fifth game with a 30-22 win in game three and a dramatic 35-33 victory in game four. Junior Jenna Mapé (Calgary, Alberta/Father Lacombe) had a career-high 20 kills and 11 digs, and junior Nikki Morzenti (Safety Harbor, FL/Clearwater) had 13 kills and a career-high 30 digs to lead the Bulls. Senior Amy Brown (Pittsburgh, PA/Mt. Lebanon) also recorded a double-double with 57 assists and 10 digs. Junior Lauren Burd (York, PA/Central York) (13), senior Katie Weekley (Dayton, OH/Chaminade-Julienne) (13) and junior Brandie Clark (Medicine Hat, Alberta/Medicine Hat) (12) also reached double digits in kills, and sophomore Lizaiha Garcia (Dayton, OH/Beavercreek) finished with 27 digs.

Buffalo Falls in Four at Ball State

On Saturday, the Bulls dropped a four-game match at Ball State, 30-27, 25-30, 30-11, 30-24. Brown Moves Into Second Place on Career Assists List

With her 48 assists at Ball State on Saturday night, Brown moved into second place on UB's all-time career assists list. Brown now has 3,741 career assists, passing Somer Deschambault (3,699 assists, 1996-99) for the second spot and trailing only Barb Tinus (3,848 assists, 1984-87). Brown already holds the school's single-season assist record with 1,288 during the 2003 season. With just over half of the 2005 season completed, Brown currently has 676 assists (10.90 per game).

Milestones For Morzenti

Morzenti had a career day at Akron on Thursday night. The junior led the Bulls with a career-high 30 digs, shattering her previous career high of 17, and also recorded 13 kills to surpass the 800 mark for career kills. Morzenti currently has 819 career kills and 687 career digs. She is on pace to become just the fifth player in UB volleyball history to reach the 1,000 mark in both statistical categories.
