Volleyball Earns Road Win at Miami, 3-2

Sophomore Katie Weekley sets career highs in kills and blocks in the win

OXFORD, OH - The University at Buffalo volleyball team pulled out a 3-2 win at Miami University tonight, 31-29, 30-27, 25-30, 27-30, 15-13. The win is the Bulls' first in the Mid-American Conference this season, and it also marked the first MAC road win for the Bulls since October 9, 1999, snapping a streak of 33 straight conference road losses.

Sophomore Katie Weekley (Dayton, OH/Chaminade-Julienne) recorded career highs in both kills (15) and blocks (12) to lead the Bulls in the win.

The RedHawks battled back to tie the match at two games apiece, but the Bulls came out strong in the fifth game, jumping out to a 6-1 lead. Miami eventually tied the score at 11-11, and a kill by Buffalo senior Lindsay Matikosh (North Tonawanda, NY/North Tonawanda) put Buffalo ahead by a 12-11 score. Buffalo's last three points in the match came off of Miami errors - a ball handling error, an attack error and finally a service error to end the game at 15-13 and give the Bulls the 3-2 win.

Junior Molly Schrantz (Depew, NY/Lancaster) posted her fifth straight double-double with 14 kills and 12 digs. Senior Alexis Bouie (Albion, NY/Albion) had 12 kills, and freshman Nikki Morzenti (Safety Harbor, FL/Clearwater) and Matikosh added 10 kills apiece. Morzenti also had 13 digs and six blocks and Matikosh had 13 digs and three blocks on the night. Sophomore setter Amy Brown (Pittsburgh, PA/Mt. Lebanon) finished with 51 assists and 12 digs.

The Bulls (6-10 overall, 1-2 MAC) return home to host Bowling Green at 2 pm on Sunday, October 5 in Alumni Arena.
