NIAGARA UNIVERSITY, NY - Sophomore Lindsay Matikosh (North Tonawanda, NY/North Tonawanda) posted her fifth double-double of the year with a career-high 26 kills and a team-high 16 digs to lead the University at Buffalo volleyball team to its third win of the season at Niagara. The Bulls won the five-game marathon (32-30, 32-30, 27-30, 22-30, 15-9) in two hours and 15 minutes to improve their record to 3-9 overall while Niagara drops to 4-6 overall. The win improved UB's record against the Purple Eagles to 39-8 all-time.

The Bulls took early control of game one and led by as many as five points on numerous occasions before the Purple Eagles battled back to tie the score at 27-27. Both teams exchanged points until a kills and a block by Matikosh gave the Bulls the needed two-point margin of victory to end the game. Game two led off where game one had ended with both teams exchanging points until Niagara slowly built a five point lead midway through the match, 23-18. With the Purple Eagles playing for match point, a kill and a block by sophomore Alexis Bouie (Albion, NY/Albion), a kill by senior Larissa LaCour (West Islip, NY/West Islip) and two kills by Matikosh switched the momentum into Buffalo's favor, and game two then ended on an attack error by Niagara with the same 32-30 score as game one. The Purple Eagles would not give in, however, and they battled back to score a 30-27 win in game three and to dominate in game four to tie the match at two games apiece. Freshman Katie Henry (Buffalo, NY/City Honors) started the fifth and final game off with an ace and Matikosh then took matters into her own hands, recording five of her 26 kills to lead the Bulls to a decisive 15-9 win.

In addition to Matikosh, Bouie also finished with double figures in kills with 13. LaCour compiled 62 assists and 14 digs, and Henry also added 14 digs to the Bulls' effort. Senior Heather Barfuss (Huntington, NY/John H. Glenn) and freshman Molly Schrantz (Depew, NY/Lancaster) had 15 digs apiece while also adding eight and four kills, respectively.

After playing nine straight road matches, the Bulls will finally return home to Alumni Arena for two conference matches over the weekend. The Bulls, who are 0-4 in Mid-American Conference play so far this season, host Bowling Green on Friday, October 5 at 7 pm and Miami (OH) on Sunday, October 7 at 3 pm.
