UB Splits Weekend With Akron and Ball State

The University at Buffalo volleyball team won its first conference game of the season last Friday, sweeping Akron. The win also gave UB its 12th on the season, surpassing its win total from 2005. The Bulls were unable to keep the momentum up the following day, dropping a 3-0 decision to Ball State.

Nikki Morzenti Joins Select Group

Senior Nikki Morzenti (Safety Harbor, FL/Clearwater) became just the fifth player in UB volleyball history to reach 1,000 career kills and 1,000 career digs. Morzenti reached the milestone with her 14th dig last night against Akron. Morzenti joins the exclusive company of Tracey Quider (1983-86), Laurie Santelli (1991-95), Candie Hirst (1992-95) and Lindsay Matikosh (2000-03). Morzenti currently has 1,220 career kills, which is third all-time in UB volleyball history. Her 1,010 digs put her at tenth all-time.

Senior Brandie Clark (Medicine Hat, Alberta/Medicine Hat) became just the tenth player in UB volleyball history to record over 1,000 career assists. Playing her first season as UB’s primary setter, Clark has 717 assists on the year, which put her ninth in the MAC for assists per game.

UB In The MAC Rankings

The Bulls can be found in several of the MAC leader categories. As a team, UB is leading the MAC in service aces, registering 2.17 per game. Buffalo is also currently second in the conference in total blocks at 2.74 per game, which sits behind Bowling Green’s 2.80 per game. Alyssa Fitchette (Watertown, NY/Watertown/Genesee CC) sits at ninth in hitting percentage at .294. Nikki Morzenti and Jenna Mapé (Calgary, Alberta/Father Lacombe) are tied for fifth in service aces at 0.41 per game and junior Lizaiha Garcia (Dayton, OH/Beavercreek) is tied for ninth at 0.39 per game. Kelsey Lueders (Littleton, CO/Chatfield) and Fitchette remain amongst the blocking leaders as Lueders is tied for second at 1.32 per game and Fitchette is fifth at 1.24. Garcia is also fifth in digs at 4.94 per game.

Up Next

The Bulls hit the road for the next five matches, including four conference tilts. The Bulls travel to Miami (OH) on Friday night at 7:00 pm. UB then hits Bowling Green on Saturday for an afternoon match at 3:00 pm.
