Buffalo Falls in Four at Ball State

Setter Amy Brown moves into second place all-time in career assists

MUNCIE, IN - The University at Buffalo volleyball team dropped a four-game match at Ball State tonight, 30-27, 25-30, 30-11, 30-24. Senior setter Amy Brown (Pittsburgh, PA/Mt. Lebanon) recorded her seventh double-double in the last eight matches with 48 assists and 15 digs. In the process, she moved into second place all-time in UB volleyball history in career assists (3,741), surpassing Somer Deschambault who had 3,699 assists from 1996-99.

Junior Jenna Mapé (Calgary, Alberta/Father Lacombe) had a team-high 17 kills to lead the Bulls' offense. Senior Katie Weekley (Dayton, OH/Chaminade-Julienne) also reached double digits in kills with 14 while adding four blocks, including two solos. Junior Nikki Morzenti (Safety Harbor, FL/Clearwater) had nine kills, 14 digs and two blocks, and junior Lauren Burd (York, PA/Central York) had nine kills and three blocks. Sophomore Lizaiha Garcia (Dayton, OH/Beavercreek) finished with a team-high 20 digs, while junior Brandie Clark (Medicine Hat, Alberta/Medicine Hat) chipped in 15 digs along with four kills and four blocks.

Ball State (9-5 overall, 3-1 Mid-American Conference) was led by Kelly Cochran with a match-high 19 kills and 16 digs and Rachel Refenes with 12 kills and a match-high seven blocks. The Cardinals had 14 team blocks in the match compared to the Bulls' eight and nine service aces compared to the Bulls' three.

The Bulls (7-9 overall, 0-4 MAC) will get a break from Mid-American Conference action when they play at local rival Canisius on Wednesday, October 5 at 7 pm. Buffalo will be looking to snap a four-match losing streak.
