Bulls Drop Five-Game Match at Canisius

Schrantz, Morzenti and Brown post career highs in loss

BUFFALO, NY - The University at Buffalo volleyball team fell to 5-10 overall with a 3-2 loss at local rival Canisius College tonight. Game scores were 27-30, 30-25, 27-30, 30-27 and 15-12. Junior Molly Schrantz (Depew, NY/Lancaster) and freshman Nikki Morzenti (Safety Harbor, FL/Clearwater) led the Bulls with 21 kills apiece, and sophomore Amy Brown (Pittsburgh, PA/Mt. Lebanon) finished with a career-high 66 assists in the five-game match.

Morzenti's 21 kills set a career high, and Schrantz also posted a career-high 26 digs and tied her career high with five blocks in the match. Brown added 12 digs for the double-double, and freshman Wendy Haskell (Clarence Center, NY/Clarence) tied her career high with 14 digs. Senior Lindsay Matikosh (North Tonawanda, NY/North Tonawanda) contributed 11 kills, 16 digs and three blocks, and senior Alexis Bouie (Albion, NY/Albion) added 10 kills and four blocks. Sophomore Katie Weekley (Dayton, OH/Chaminade-Julienne) finished with nine kills and a match-high eight blocks.

The Golden Griffins (8-9 overall) were led by Christina Wildes with 18 kills and 22 digs.

The Bulls will return to Mid-American Conference play this weekend with a 7 pm match at Miami (OH) on Friday, October 3 and a 2 pm match at home against Bowling Green on Sunday, October 5. Buffalo is 0-2 in conference play so far this season.
