Volleyball Falls to Northern Illinois

Sophomore Becky Ashare Leads Bulls With 11 Kills

DEKALB, IL - The Northern Illinois Huskies proved to be too much for the University at Buffalo volleyball team as they handed the Bulls their fourth conference loss of the season, 30-15, 30-25, 30-22 in DeKalb. With the loss, Buffalo's record drops to 2-9 overall and 0-4 in the Mid-American Conference while the Huskies improve to 6-4 overall and 3-2 in the league. Buffalo sophomore Becky Ashare (Coram, NY/Longwood) led the Bulls' attack with 11 kills on 27 attempts.

Sophomore Lindsay Matikosh (North Tonawanda, NY/North Tonawanda) also posted double figures in kills with 10 while also adding seven digs, and freshman Molly Schrantz (Depew, NY/Lancaster) had seven kills and seven digs on the night. Senior Heather Barfuss (Huntington, NY/John H. Glenn) led the Bulls with five block assists and with nine digs while also pitching in four kills, three assists and two service aces. Sophomore Alexis Bouie (Albion, NY/Albion) also recorded five blocks on the night and senior setter Larissa LaCour (West Islip, NY/West Islip) had 26 assists and eight digs.

The Bulls will take a break from conference play this week when they travel to local rival Niagara on Wednesday, October 3 for a 7 pm match. After their ninth road match, the Bulls will then be home for two conference matches over the weekend, against Bowling Green on Friday, October 5 at 7 pm and against Miami (OH) on Sunday, October 7 at 3 pm.
