Bulls Split Opening Weekend Of MAC Play

The University at Buffalo volleyball team split its first two matches of conference play this past weekend as the Bulls fell to Miami, 3-1, on Friday night before coming back on Saturday to defeat Bowling Green, 3-1. It was the first win for the Bulls against the Falcons since 2003 and their first ever at Anderson Arena. The win on the opening weekend was also the first time UB had started with a win since joining the MAC in 1998.

Hornbaker Continues To Roll

Junior Marisa Hornbaker led the Bulls in kills on the weekend as she netted her second career 20-kill performance against Bowling Green. Hornbaker finished the day with 21 kills and established a new career high with her 48 total attempts. Against Miami, Hornbaker had a team-high 16 kills. She is currently second on the team in kills with 153, and is nearing her kill total from all of 2008, which was 172.

Schlegel Keeps Offense Running

Junior setter Lindsey Schlegel had one of her best matches of the season against Bowling Green as she flirted with a triple-double. Schlegel had a season-high 48 assists, while adding nine digs and seven kills. Schlegel recorded those seven kills without committing an error in 17 total attacks. Schlegel currently has 525 assists on the season and currently leads the Mid-American Conference with her 26 service aces.

Up Next

The Bulls return home and will play five of their next six matches at Alumni Arena. UB hosts Kent State on Friday night and Ohio on Saturday night. Both matches are set to begin at 7:00 pm. Last season, the Bulls defeated Kent State, 3-0, at Alumni Arena, while their home match against Ohio was a five-set thriller that the Bobcats won, 3-2.
