Bulls Defeat Niagara, Drop First Two MAC Matches The University at Buffalo volleyball team equaled its win total from 2005 with a 3-0 victory over Niagara last Tuesday at the Gallagher Center. UB then opened conference play where it went 0-2 on the first weekend of action. Buffalo dropped a 3-0 decision to Kent State before falling to nationally-ranked Ohio, 3-1. Lizaiha Garcia Sets School Record Junior Lizaiha Garcia (Dayton, OH/Beavercreek) set a school record for digs in a three-game match with her 32 against Kent State on Friday night. The 32 digs shatter the old record of 23, which was set by Chassey Stubler against Canisuis in 1998. It was the second time that Garcia reached the 30-dig mark in a match this year as she had 30 against Canisius earlier this season. It was the third time that she had done it in her career. Earlier this year, Garcia became just the 10th player in UB history to surpass the 1,000-dig mark for her career and currently has 1,209, which puts her sixth all-time.
Bulls In The MAC Rankings In the latest conference rankings released, UB can be found near the top of several categories. The Bulls lead the conference in service aces with 135 (2.14 per game). UB is also second in blocks behind Bowling Green at 2.76 blocks per game. Individually, Alyssa Fitchette (Watertown, NY/Watertown/Genesee CC) is seventh in the conference in hitting percentage at .306 (113-35-255). Lizaiha Garcia and Nikki Morzenti (Safety Harbor, FL/Clearwater) are both in the top 10 in service aces at seventh and ninth, respectively. Kelsey Lueders (Littleton, CO/Chatfield) and Fitchette are fourth and fifth in the conference in blocks. Garcia is currently sixth in the conference in digs and after the first weekend of conference play can be found a top the digs category in conference games only as she has 52 digs through the two MAC contests.
