BUFFALO, NY - The University at Buffalo volleyball team opened the Mid-American Conference schedule with a hard-fought 3-1 loss to visiting Western Michigan tonight in Alumni Arena. The Bulls battled in 30-27 and 30-26 losses in games one and two before stealing game three by a 31-29 score. The Broncos put the match away with an easy 30-17 win in game four.

Junior Molly Schrantz (Depew, NY/Lancaster) and sophomore Katie Weekley (Dayton, OH/Chaminade-Julienne) led the Bulls with 14 kills apiece, and senior Lindsay Matikosh (North Tonawanda, NY/North Tonawanda) finished with 13 kills to lead the Bulls. Matikosh and Schrantz both had double-doubles with a team-high 12 digs, and Weekley led the Bulls with four blocks. Sophomore setter Amy Brown (Pittsburgh, PA/Mt. Lebanon) had a solid game with five kills, 49 assists and seven digs.

The Broncos were led by Carman Malone (17 kills, 12 digs) and Schea Fissel (14 kills, eight digs). Setter Jenifer Sulewski finished with 43 assists, nine digs and five blocks.

The Bulls (5-8 overall, 0-1 MAC) are home again tomorrow afternoon at 1 pm against Eastern Michigan.
