Volleyball Falls to EMU, 3-1

YPSILANTI, MI - The University at Buffalo volleyball team fell to 7-8 overall and 0-2 in the Mid-American Conference with a 3-1 loss at Eastern Michigan this afternoon. Game scores were 30-21, 30-24, 27-30 and 30-26. Freshman libero Lizaiha Garcia (Dayton, OH/Beavercreek) had a match-high 30 digs in the loss, and junior Katie Weekley (Dayton, OH/Chaminade-Julienne) had a team-high eight blocks, seven of them solos.

Senior Molly Schrantz (Depew, NY/Lancaster) led the Bulls in kills for the second straight match with 17, and she also added 15 digs for her second double-double in the last three matches. Weekley also recorded double digits in kills with 12, and freshman Tammy Julé (Regina Beach, Saskatchewan/Riffel) added nine kills. Junior setter Amy Brown (Pittsburgh, PA/Mt. Lebanon) had 46 assists and 10 digs, and sophomore Wendy Haskell (Clarence Center, NY/Clarence) added five kills, 10 digs and two blocks.

Eastern Michigan (7-6, 3-0 MAC) was led by Becky Baltare with 17 kills, 15 digs and three blocks, and Lindsay Piccolini with 11 kills, four digs and a match-high nine blocks.

The Bulls now return home to begin a six-match homestand in the newly-renovated Alumni Arena. Next weekend, Buffalo hosts Northern Illinois at 6 pm on Friday, October 1 and defending MAC Champion Ohio at 2 pm on Saturday, October 2.
