Nationally-Ranked Ohio Too Much For Bulls
The Bobcats, which dropped just five games to conference opponents all of last season, defeated UB, 30-18, 30-12, 24-30, 30-15 and out-hit Buffalo .354 to .124. In fact Ohio hit over .400 in all three games that it won. Down 2-0, UB tried to make things interesting and took game three as it allowed Ohio to hit just .146 in that game. UB’s senior outside hitters led the charge as both Nikki Morzenti (Safety Harbor, FL/Clearwater) and Jenna Mapé (Calgary, Alberta/Father Lacombe) recorded double-doubles with identical 12-kill and 10-dig marks. Morzenti also added two service aces, while Mapé contributed with one. Joining the two seniors in the double-digit category for digs was junior Lizaiha Garcia (Dayton, OH/Beavercreek) who recorded a team-high 20 digs just one day after setting a school record for digs in a three-game match.
Senior Brandie Clark (Medicine Hat, Alberta/Medicine Hat) finished with 36 assists on the evening and contributed to UB’s six total blocks with a solo block and a block assist. Also finishing with two total blocks in the match were Morzenti, Kelsey Lueders (Littleton, CO/Chatfield) and Alyssa Fitchette (Watertown, NY/Watertown/Genesee CC). Ohio (10-3, 2-0 MAC) was led by four players with double-digit kills and three players to reach double digits in the digs category. Stephanie Blackburn finished with a match-high 16 kills and 15 digs. Savanah Para finished the match with 46 of Ohio’s 62 assists. UB will be back hosting conference play on Friday, Sept. 29 as it hosts Akron. The Bulls will then host Ball State on Saturday, Sept. 30. Both matches are set to begin at 7:00 pm. |
