Lindsay Matikosh Named MAC East Division Co-Player of the Week
Matikosh led the Bulls to four wins last week, their longest winning streak since the 1999 season, and she was named to her fourth consecutive all-tournament team of the season at the Western New York Volleyball Invitational over the weekend. Matikosh led the Bulls with averages of 4.59 kills and 4.29 digs per game in their four wins last week, and she posted double-doubles in kills and digs in all four matches. She posted a career-high 25 digs in Buffalo's 3-2 win over Canisius on Saturday and then later surpassed the 800 mark in career digs (811). Matikosh has 237 kills and 197 digs on the season, and she currently leads the MAC in kills per game (4.31) and is tied for fifth in digs per game (3.58). Matikosh shares the MAC East Division Player of the Week honor with Danielle Holt from Kent State, who was named Most Valuable Player of the New Hampshire Tournament. Matikosh's Player of the Week honor is the first for a UB volleyball player in the Bulls' four-plus seasons competing in the MAC. Matikosh has been leading the Bulls all season long, and with an 8-6 overall record, they
have already surpassed their win total from one year ago when they went 5-23. The Bulls begin the
MAC portion of their 2002 schedule this week when they travel to Akron for a 7:30 pm match on
Thursday, September 26 and then host Marshall at 3 pm on Saturday, September 28. |
