Bulls Drop Conference Opener
Buffalo was beat, 30-27, 30-22, 30-19 by the visiting Golden Flashes, but did receive a record-breaking performance from junior libero Lizaiha Garcia (Dayton, OH/Beavercreek). Garcia recorded a career-high 32 digs in the three games, shattering the school-record of 23 digs in a three-game match, which was set by Chassey Stubler against Canisius in 1998. Tonight marked the second 30-dig performance from Garcia on the year as she recorded 30 digs against Canisius earlier in the year. As a team, UB was out-hit .225 to .122 and three players led the Bulls with eight kills a piece. Senior Brandie Clark (Medicine Hat, Alberta/Medicine Hat) finished with 33 assists on the evening and freshman Kelsey Lueders (Littleton, CO/Chatfield) tied a match high with three total blocks. UB out-blocked Kent State by a narrow margin, recording six total blocks to the Golden Flashes’ five total blocks.
Kent State (8-6, 1-1 MAC) was led by three players with double-digit blocks and Katie Veatch, who recorded 43 assists in the contest. Three different Golden Flashes also recorded over 10 digs on the evening. UB remains home tomorrow night as it hosts nationally-ranked Ohio. In its conference-opener, Ohio defeated Akron in three games. That match is set for 7:00 pm and can be heard live on WLVL 1340 AM. |
