Bulls Fall To Nationally-Ranked Ohio
The Bobcats defeated the Bulls, 30-19, 30-18, 30-22 and hit .408 for the match, opposed to a .120 hitting percentage for the Bulls. Freshman Marisa Hornbaker (Colorado Springs, CO/Colorado Springs Christian) had eight kills, while freshman Lindsey Schlegel (Lancaster, NY/Lancaster) had 25 assists, seven digs and four kills. Schlegel also recorded one of UB’s two service aces. Sophomore Maria Mezzadri (Livonia, MI/Livonia Stevenson) and junior Claudia Neba (Aurora, CO/Smoky Hill/Rutgers) each added five kills. Senior Lizaiha Garcia (Dayton, OH/Beavercreek) had a team-high nine digs for the Bulls.
Ohio, which was ranked 19th in the most recent CSTV/AVCA Division I Coaches Top 25 Poll, was led by 15 kills from Stephanie Blackburn and 14 kills from Melissa Griffin. Michelle Jantsch had 27 assists, while Jill Dearmond added 21 assists. Molly Managan chipped in a match-high 11 digs. The Bulls will return to action tomorrow afternoon as they host Kent State at 3:00 pm. Following that match will be the home opener for the UB Football team as they host Baylor at 6:00 pm at UB Stadium. |
