Bulls Wrap Up Non-Conference Play The University at Buffalo volleyball team played its final four non-conference matches this past week and ended its seven-match road trip as it competed in the Coastal Carolina Invitational. The Bulls took games from Delaware and Gardner-Webb, but were unable to come up with a victory during the week. In the final match against Gardner-Webb, UB’s two middle blockers combined for 16 kills with no errors in the match.
Solid In The Middle UB’s two middle blockers, freshman Kristin Bignell (Drayton, Ontario/Norwell District) and sophomore Kelsey Lueders (Littleton, CO/Chatfield), combined for 49 kills and just 12 errors in 129 totals attempts during UB’s last four matches. Lueders had 25 kills, while Bignell was right behind her with 24 kills. Lueders had 13 total blocks on the week to lead the team, including one solo block. Digging It Senior Lizaiha Garcia (Dayton, OH/Beavercreek) continues to lead the Bulls in the digging department as she added 56 digs to her total this past week. In the three matches at the Coastal Carolina Invitational, Garcia had 50 digs, which was 4.55 per game. Garcia currently has 217 digs on the year which is tops on the team. Earlier this season, Garcia became UB’s all-time career digs leader by breaking a 16-year old school record.
Freshmen Continue To Play Well Many of the UB freshmen have played the majority of the 2007 season including setter Lindsey Schlegel (Lancaster, NY/Lancaster). Schlegel has 461 assists on the season and her 22 service aces are also tops on the squad. Schlegel has helped direct the UB offense and has helped freshman Marisa Hornbaker (Colorado Springs, CO/Colorado Springs Christian) continue to put up good numbers. Hornbaker is currently second on the team with 101 kills as she has seen action in 15 of Buffalo’s 16 matches on the year. Hornbaker has 13 service aces on the year. Up Next
