Bulls Come Up Short at West Virginia
Down two games to one, the Bulls rallied to dominate game four, never trailing en route to the 30-22 win to force the deciding fifth game. Game five went back and forth with seven ties, the last one coming at 10-10. The Mountaineers' 5-1 run that ended the match included a Buffalo service error, a kill by Kelly Mullins and three Buffalo attack errors, one from a block by Kailee Goold and Julie Hockenson. UB's last point came on a WVU attack error. There were 13 total attack errors in game five alone, with the Bulls hitting -.087 and the Mountaineers hitting -.033. Buffalo hit .087 in the match compared to WVU's .095. Morzenti led the Bulls with a team-high 16 kills and 14 digs, and Mapé finished with 10 kills and a career-high 16 digs. Brown posted her double-double on 45 assists and 11 digs while also adding three kills and four blocks, and junior Lauren Burd (York, PA/Central York) recorded 11 kills and a match-high eight blocks, which tied her career high. Sophomore libero Lizaiha Garcia (Dayton, OH/Beavercreek) had a team-high 21 digs. The Mountaineers (8-3) were led by Stephanie Zolna with a match-high 20 kills and 10 digs, Mullins with 14 kills and 10 digs and Hockenson with 11 kills and six blocks. The Bulls (5-5) conclude the tournament with two matches on Saturday, against Memphis at 2:30
pm and against Duquesne at 5:30 pm. |
