Volleyball Finishes 1-2 at Northwestern Invitational

Bulls defeat Towson, lose to Northwestern; Shiels named to All-Tournament Team

BUFFALO, NY - Junior Keri Shiels (Baldwin, NY/Baldwin) posted a match-high 19 kills and 11 digs and junior Sasha Courbat (Cedar Falls, IA/Kirkwood Community College) added 12 kills and 10 digs to lead the University at Buffalo women's volleyball team to a 3-15, 15-12, 15-11, 15-9 win over Towson at the Northwestern Invitational. Junior Larissa LaCour (West Islip, NY/West Islip) contributed 43 assists, seven digs and a career-high six blocks to the win, Buffalo's third of the season. The victory snapped a six-match Bulls' losing streak.

Buffalo lost its opening match of the day to the host Wildcats, 12-15, 4-15, 15-12, 2-15. Shiels again paced the Bulls with 12 kills and a team-high seven digs. Junior Wendy Ryder (Bernhards Bay, NY/Genesee Community College) added nine kills and five digs, and freshman Lindsay Matikosh (North Tonawanda, NY/North Tonawanda) contributed seven kills, five digs and two blocks.

Shiels represented Buffalo on the All-Tournament team after her two-day performance of 35 kills and 22 digs in three matches.

Buffalo (3-7 overall) returns home next weekend to open the Mid-American portion of its schedule. The Bulls host Central Michigan on Friday, September 22 at 7 pm and Northern Illinois on Saturday, September 23 at 4 pm.
