Bulls Sweep Three Matches On The Week The University at Buffalo volleyball team increased its winnings streak to four matches as UB’s swept its three matches this past week. The Bulls defeated Niagara 3-0 on Wednesday night and then won a pair of 3-0 decisions against Youngstown State this past weekend. The Bulls are currently on a streak where they have won their last 10 sets. UB has also tied its win total from 2008 with six wins so far on the year. Silvers Surpasses 2008 Totals Just nine matches into the season, senior Dani Silvers has already surpassed her kill total from last season. Playing in just 48 sets last year due to injury, Silvers recorded 106 kills in 2008. This season, Silvers and the Bulls have played in 30 sets and she has already recorded 121 kills on the year, averaging over four per set. Silvers is second on the team in hitting percentage at .291.
Bignell Completes Solid Week Junior Kristin Bignell had her best week of the season during these past three matches. Bignell had a season-high 10 kills against Youngstown State on Saturday and had nine total blocks, including two solos. Bignell wasn’t the only player to put up good blocking numbers as sophomore Abby Niekamp had 10 total blocks, including two solos. Niekamp had a match-high five total blocks on Saturday against Youngstown State.
Up Next The Bulls wrap up their four-match homestand on Tuesday night as they host Syracuse at Alumni Arena. The match is set for 7:00 pm. UB then travels to the Cornell Invitational this weekend. The Bulls will play their second straight Big East opponent on Friday at 4:00 pm against St. John’s. On Saturday, UB will face Colgate at 1:00 pm before facing the host Big Red at 7:00 pm.
